Don Imus

Not an Alabama story, but here’s my thoughts.

1) He’s a jacka** and I’m glad CBS fired him.

2) Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton – the main agitators for the firing – cause a lot more harm to the black community than Don Imus ever could.

3) This whole episode illustrates one of the reasons I oppose any and all attempts by the FCC to regulate the content of radio or television. If something is truly outrageous, consumers and advertisers will make sure it stays off the air. Let the people decide whether we want to hear Don Imus or see Janet Jackson’s breast.

Sharpton and Jackson never met a microphone they didn’t like. OR a camera they didn’t want to jump in front of.

I don’t like Imus and what he said was AWFUL. But what about that little thing called Freedom of Speech?

The FCC is why I own a Sirius radio and never listen to anything else.

that protects you from the government; not from the reactions of your fellow citizens.

    Wheeler,

You excellently summarized my thoughts on the situation. My only problem (and it’s a big one) is the way that CBS and MSNBC pandered to Jackson and Sharpton.

…or your employer, who is losing advertising dollars to your stupidity.
