“No man’s life, liberty, or property are safe while the legislature is in session”

Today’s the first day of the current legislative session. Dan’s got a post entitled “My Agenda” with legislation he’s hoping to see. Kathy responds to some of those things here.

The Montgomery Advertiser has a running collection of readers’ suggestions for new laws. Banning cell phone use while driving is frequently mentioned. So is more regulation of landfills.

As for crime legislation, there were a couple like this:

Any adult who kidnaps or rapes a child younger than 15, should receive the death sentence.

Texas is trying to pass that one right now:

According to Paul Burka:

Among the concerns of House members that led to the postponement of the debate on Jessica’s Laws was the realization that the death penalty could apply to Catholic priests who have committed two offenses of sexual abuse.

That’s an interesting angle, huh?

Talk about “special rights.” Anyway, back to the list. It also features subtle racism:

There should be a law against young men wearing their pants below the waist with underwear showing.

What about old men with half their butt hanging out of their pants?

There’s some not very funny jokes:

Just to keep education and football on a level field there ougta be a law that “No State supported institution may pay the football coach more than it pays the president of the university.

That might have made me laugh if it was even arguable that the president of the university provided even one fraction of the benefit that the football coach does.

Of course, there are some really good ideas:

There ought’a be a law that says that for every new law passed, 3 laws must be taken off the books.

My God, Hinton Mitchem is one mentally challenged person. he has no business in teh legislature. did anyone else witness his feeble, infantile attempts at ‘reading’ the democrat response. Seriously, God help us all. With nitwits like this so close to the power of our future, its no wonder many alabamians are not only stupid but corrupt. God, please do something with Hinton Mitchem, he is too stupid for public service.

    I agree!

  3. Anyone who KIDNAPS OR rapes a child younger than 15 should get the death sentence? I’ve seen custody disputes among parents turn into (alleged) kidnapping cases.

I agree that anyone with their pants pulled down should qualify as indecent exposure. Nobody wants to look at that! I don’t care if it’s that old guy down the street or Tara Reid. I don’t want to see your butt crack, especially when you’ve neglected the toilet paper that particular day. Ew!

  4. Dan Says:

Who doesn’t want to see Tara Reid with her pants down? Look, I don’t frequent celebrityskin.com (nor have I even heard of it), but let’s be reasonable here.

i defend a plumber’s exclusion from the rule. if not, then you do your own sink repairs.
