Militia Madness
In case you did not know, the recent arrest of several militia crazies here in Alabama is proof of . . .
society’s war against law abiding white boys, and . . .
society’s war against law abiding not-white people.

A large proportion of these militia groups, or their left wing counterparts, are not wrapped that tight. Their rhetoric is frightening. So faced with a group of potential bad actors who have accumulated some serious firepower, I would prefer the government to err on the side of caution where public safety is the issue. What if the informant were right and they chose not to act?
I am, by and large, not in favor of gun control. I accept that the majority of gun owners are both responible and law abiding and that they do have Second Amendment rights. But seriously, would the founding fathers have left the Bill of Rights unqualified if they could have foreseen the evolution of personal weapons from 18th century flintlocks to what is on the market today?

i think the second amendment is an area that “originalism” as popularly understood and supported might not lead where its usual supporters want it to lead. i.e. i doubt very seriously that the original understanding of “arms” included, e.g. what was recovered in this case.
